I reignited my writing career (or, at least, developed a more solid, persistent writing habit) on Substack. It’s growing rapidly, and I appreciated being able to find an audience there. If you’re reading this, odds are you probably initially joined my mailing list via Substack.
A few months ago, I started noticing emails from creators I’d followed that looked… different. They didn’t have that distinct Substack styling. But I didn’t remember signing up to follow anyone on this Beehiiv thing. What the heck was it?
I did some digging and found it’s a competitor to Substack, but it’s also doing its own thing. Whereas Substack is trying to be a newsletter, blogging platform, and social media network all in one, Beehiiv places more of an emphasis on the newsletter and blogging piece. It also has a surprisingly robust editor that allows you to build out your own website.
I’m still getting things set up, but I wanted to write a quick post here to kick the tires and let you know—if you start seeing emails coming through me that look a little different, it’s just because I’m in the process of moving.
It seems likely that I’ll carry through with the full move and make this the new official home for Behold The Spirit. It seems to be a lot more customizable, and so far I like the user interface a lot more.
That’s all—I’ll be returning with my daily Live and In Pencil posts soon. I’ve been taking a break to catch up on stuff in my personal life, but I plan to return to regular posting in another day or so.
If you’re reading this, I’d love to hear from you. Let me know what you think of the new format!
